Well i have now got my new monitor, and im amazed at the quailty of this! Dell have made a great Monitor. Now im not one that can tell how great it is apart from the look and view of images/movies/games on screen. The colours on screen look amazing, and with HD 1080p movies, they look crisp/clean and nice.

Nothing new to talk about, just waiting to find a QuadCore, Found me a new Dell Monitor, but think ill go for dual screen. Nothing more to talk about. Starting learning programming, so ill be lookin forward to writing some ipod touch games! (BTW I NEEED TO GET A IPOD TOUCH!)

Colours dont seem right...

Well i have moved back to Windows7, and lefted Snow Leopard for awhile, i am having issues with the colour and maybe refesh rate on my monitor. The dark colours i can see it refreshing, and some colours are not showing too well. But if i boot into windows i see no problems and everything is fine. Ill be getting a New quadcore/case/memory/hd/blue ray/monitor and speakers. While i have some info about the soundcard i wish to use, ill wait till i have my system updated with new hardware.

New Hardware

Well ive been looking @ some new Hardware, Apple Wireless Might Mouse. @ 125$NZD, this mouse looks nice, and is wireless. I wish the Apple Keyboard (with number pad) was wireless. Anyway been looking @ this, what blue-tooth device is needed to get it running on my Snow Leopard. By the Looks of things it will work, but not the Feature to turn on your computer while its in sleep mode.. But im not too concerned about this, cause my computer is on 24/7. The other option is Quad Core.. Intel Q8400, or Q9400 both are the same speeds but with the Q8400 having 2mb less cache then the Q9400, and cost is about 50$ cheaper. But i am getting a New Case, dont know when... LIAN-LI PC-A05NB

GOT WIRELESS OUT OF THE BOX CARD

Well im happy to say i have got me my wireless card, TP-Link TL-WN951N this morning @ 6.30am NZD. Im lucky i have a dog that like to bark, and i was able to receive the card, install and away i went! i can pick up some networks around my area, and my own network, and everything just works fine. So i say this card rocks!

64BIt Snow Leopard

Well im waiting for my Wireless Network Card, and though ill look into 64bit Snow Leopard, ill be upgrading my Memory to 4Gigs with 4weeks, and didnt know if Snow Leopard needed to be in 64bit mode to see all my Memory. Found this here on how to automactic boot into 64bit mode.

Done now reboot and you should be in 64bit mode. Please not you will need drivers with your hardware in 64bit mode, for me there was not issue. But when i get my New Network Card ill have to install the 64Bit kext file for it. Under 32bit mode it work out of the box.

Wireless PCI Cards

So i have started looking around to find me a wireless PCI card that get me wireless working, I have found some sites, letting me know wht to look out for, but then found this card works Out Of The Box, which makes life great!

This card "TP-LINK TL-WN951N WIRELESS N PCI ADAPTER". I tried to find me a PCI Express Card but none that would work out of the box. Also i have found out that this card will work in 64Bit also with a simple kext file. For me info read here, Ill be getting this card in the next few days and will report back with my findings.

Pre Install 1TB

So 2morrow i get me a new 1TB Hard Drive, and ill be doing a complete fresh install, ill post everything i have do to get it working @ 10.6.2 Snow Leopard. After this ill be leaving it and no more install's. Am still thinking about 1TB Time Machine, and will posting up my plans for some form of backup.

UPDATE: i went into the computer shop to get me my HARD Drive, and they didnt have any inthere! This shop named DragonPC, must have the worst website in the world, they have items in stock on there site, but go in and NOPE nothing there! there site is over stock of items they dont have on there. I have decided to leave alone for now and will not recommend them to anyone! So now i have to wait 2-5 days to get one posted out from Auckland, and cause i placed the order on NY eve i will not see anything till mmm thurs lastest!

10.6.2 IS WORKING!!!!

Well i made it! Working Snow Leopard 10.6.2 - All is working as can be, and no problems yet. This is one issue and that is every time i boot into snow leopard, i get a blue screen. I'm still looking into this, and there seems to be a couple of reasons but nothing really. All i need to do is turn my screen off and then on again straight away. Other than that i loving my system and planing some upgrades. Looking into Quad core and maybe better memory. Also i wish to know more about Time Machine. Below is a screen shot of my Current System ask i speak.

The guides i have used to do this are

i recommend, that when you install and reboot to rerun the i hack you dont install the SleepEnabler.kext and that you update first before the final reboot. After rebooting then install the SleepEnabler.kext ver 6.2 and away you go.

UPDATE: just notice i had no sound and had to reapply my dsdt.aml file, and run permission's. also Changed DVI ports on my video card and i dont get the blue screen @ login. So everything thing is working perfect!

Basics of OSX86 for Noobs.

This guide is prepared for newbees of OSX86 who are interested to run OSX on their ordinary P.C. but not aware with OSX dictionary. Most of migrator comes from Windows platform & never heard about Kernel,Kext,Vanilla etc. Forums are the best place for finding information.I have collected some information from the major OSX86 sites about these basic terms lets take a quick look.

Q. What are kexts ?

Ans. Kexts, or kernel extensions are drivers that are installed to /System/Library/Extensions/.Kext files often have the “.kext” extension and allow for extra hardware support and and in the case of OSx86, to replace Appleʼs original drivers with ones that are optimized for use on PCs.

Q. What is a kernel ?

Ans. A kernel is in short terms the “core” of the operating system. It controls basically all low level operating functions. Kernels exist in all Linux and UNIX based systems, including Mac OS X. In Mac OS X the kernel is located in the root of your hard drive (/) and is named “mach_kernel” by default. If you have a vanilla based system (see below) then replacing the kernel is most likely not necessary, however if you have an AMD or SSE3 incapable processor then a patched kernel will likely be required.

Q. What is DSDT ?

Ans. DSDT is a part of ACPI. Actually DSDT tells OS how to interract with the hardware (simplified way of telling it). OSX has an incomplete ACPI implementation which supports only a subset of DSDT. By replacing DSDT we can declare essentially the same interface but in the way that OSX understands. This potentially can solve nearly any ACPI-related problem (except if OSX bypasses ACPI). Other usage case is emulating by the means of DSDT features or hardware components not present on your system. But this is limited to devices that use ACPI.

Q. What is DSDT patching?

Ans. This is an area very rarely delved into, and is something that some of even the most experienced users dare not venture. In reality, its not dangerous, it just can be painfully hard at times. DSDT is a table found in your computerʼs BIOS that controls ACPI (power, time, etc.) functions. Starting at OS X 10.5.6 Apple decided to start checking for faulty DSDTs when it boots. Obviously the PCs DSDT comes back as faulty so it will not boot. The only way to counteract this is to make a dump of the DSDT in the BIOS and patch it properly for Darwin. First of all, you need a modified bootloader that will support DSDT override. This installer includes just that, using the “Install PC_EFI v9 Chameleon Edition 1.0.12” checkbox. Now you need a patched DSDT file that will be copied to / dsdt.aml. To create DSDT dumps you can use the DSDT Patcher (also included in the Extras folder) but this is an advanced method, and often UOI plugins will include a DSDT file that you can install easily with this installer. However beware, even if you have the same motherboard DSDTʼs can vary by BIOS version so try to make sure that you have the same BIOS version as what is specified in the plugin.

Q. Difference between SMC & RTC ?

Ans. The SMC is basically System Management Controller. By resetting the SMC you can resolve some computer issues such as not starting up, not displaying video, sleep issues, fan noise issues, and blah-2. While The Real Time Clock (RTC) is a chip on the logic board that controls the date and time functions of the computer. If the computer is experiencing a booting issue, resetting the RTC may resolve it.

Q. What is a vanilla compatible system ?
Ans. A vanilla compatible system is a computer capable of running OSx86 with minimal modifications (no patched kernel, compatible with Apple software updates). You have a vanilla capable system if: you have a Core 2 based processor.

Q. What is EFI emulation ?
Ans. EFI is the Extensible Firmware interface found in real macs. EFI is basically the “BIOS” of a Mac. For a computer to be properly recognized as a mac and to have the most compatibility it must have EFI. The problem here is that PCs do not have EFI.Developers have counteracted this problem by using EFI emulation which enables basic EFI function calls through a specially modified bootloader. EFI distributions for OSx86 include PC_EFI and Chameleon. Nearly all OSx86 installs have some form of EFI emulation installed, so this is not necessarily something to worry about. EFI emulation is required to use vanilla (unpatched) kernels and kexts, and to use GUID partition maps and EFI strings (more on that below)

Back down to 10.6.0

after playing around with 10.6.2 i have been having issues that are not getting fixed! So i decided to do a fresh install, and leave it @ 10.6.2. Main issues for me in 10.6.2 are

#1 Can not shutdown correctly, i belive it has to with the SleepEnabler update i need. As i cannot find a good enough place to understand how to install.
#2 When i boot, i load into a blue screen, ive seen this before, and just press the power button to shutdown, reboot and away it went!

ill try and update soon with how i go in updating for 10.6.2 but for now ill leave it here and enjoy using.

installed Snow Leopard 10.6.2

So if you read my past post about installing snow leopard, i have now got a working snow leopard system with sound, network and nvidia GTX 260 install and working, this took me a number of installs and work arounds.

#1 when follow this guide, when you get to the section "DSDT, Audio and remaining fixes" do in click on "SleepEnabler" this is because when you update from 10.6.0 to 10.6.2 you machine will stop working. i found it easyer to just not install, update and then install this file.. i will update later the commands needed to install this update which will fix your Computer Shutdown, and Sleep.

#2 When you get "DSDT quick guide" just copy the file from your flash drive install, this will get your sound working!

Other than that everything is working.

First install of Snow Leopard

Well i tryed my first install of Snow Leopard. I found this great guide @ infinitemac. They have everything you need to understand how to install, All works, but not the sound, i am having troubles understand the final part.

open ES2L kit Tools then "DSDT_Patcher1.0.1e" folder and double click "DSDT Patcher"
- a terminal window will open then press any key to continue
- next it will ask "Which OS to emulate? [0=Darwin, 1=WinXP, 2=WinVista]" input "0" and press enter
- a new Debug folder will appear and inside it are a few files but we are interested in "dsdt.dsl"
- open your dsdt.dsl using your preffered texteditor so we can start editing
- also as reference, open my included dsl to copy from it directly or check how it's done
- on your keyboard press "command F (Find)" and look for "_WAK", right above it copy paste "DTGP" located on your dsdtfix file
- again "command F (Find)" and enter RTC, look for "0x04" below RTC and changed them to "0x02" - this fix is for CMOS Reset
- command F (Find) and enter Azalia, go to dsdtfix file and copy paste "HDEF" to your dsl replacing azalia.. again check my included dsl for reference - this is for ALC883 Audio
- when done and sure everything is correct, hit save or (command S) to save your dsdt.dsl
- to compile it to .aml, drag and drop it (dsdt.dsl) to iAslMe, you'll get 1 warning (PARM under IGD0) but hopefully you have 0 error
- look for Sessions folder and copy dsdt.aml to /Extra of your Snow Leopard

ill jump back onto it later, but did find that after the install, i had to use other old video card so i could install the Nvidia Drivers, after reboot all was fine. The other issue i had was learning to install needed drivers to read NTFS Windows Drive. Apart from this everything else worked great, and the howto guide was quick and easy. Please read this if you wish to move to Snow Leopard.

Intalling with iATKOS v7

Two OS / One Hard Drive

Well ive decided to upgrade to Snow Leopard, ill be using this same setup with a couple of changes, first ill have a Nvidia 8800GT, and a SATA 640Gig Hard Drive, setup to dual boot Windows 7 and Snow Leopard. Found this at sevenforums.com

First install Windows 7. Then, create a new partition for your osx within Windows 7 , format it as fat32 or ntfs and set to to be "active".

Then run the osx installation and before you start the install, go to Utilities and "disk utility" , select the partition you created from Windows 7 and format it as Journaled (don't delete it!).

Then, install as you would normally, selecting this partition as your installation target. (don't forget to customize your OSX installation with the necessary drivers for you system.)

After installation is complete, you will need to repair your Windows 7 boot loader, cause you probably won't be able to boot Windows 7.
Insert the Windows 7 installation DVD, at the first installation screen select your language etc, and at the second screen select "repair computer".
This will bring the Windows 7 boot loader back, so you can boot Windows 7.

Now you won't be able to load osx!
So boot in Windows 7, and unhide your hidden 200MB partition:

1. In disk management, assign a drive letter for your 200MB hidden partition.

2.Download EasyBCD and add a new boot entry, select MacOS, Generic X86, Add, Save.

ill keep you dated as i make this happen!

EDIT:

After trying to work this out, i for the life of me could not get this working! i now belive the best way to install OSX86 is to have 2 Hard Drives! everything is alot easyer and life is simple!

I have installed this with no problems, i would recommend that you get a Apple Keyboard of some sort, has you do need the option key. Ill post up what options i use in the install. Also, i was able to get a GA-G31M-ES2L REV 1.* Motherboard, with this motherboard everything works out of the box. I have also got me a Nvidia GTX 260, there is a way to install and use it, and it took me about 9 Install's.

Gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2L Rev 2.0 (note that if you can get the Rev 1.0 board do so, as they have change the Network Card on Rev 2.0 and at the moment, there is no support for it.)
Intel E5200 @ 3.20Ghz with Coolermaster V8 CPU Cooler ( note with the CPU Cooler, i went with this cause im lookin @ overclock this type of CPU, some reports say you can get upto 4.0Ghz. )
2.0Gigs DDR2 667 (note that the more the better, at the moment this will do)
Nvidia 7600GS 512MB (note that this should be a 9400GT min, but at the moment this would work also)
Realtek RTL8139 PCI Network Card ( note the drivers are on IATKOSv7 disk )
80.0Gig SATAII Hard Drive
DVDRW SATA
Coolermaster 650Watt PSU ( note you dont need to much power on a PSU, but i have it laying around... 400-450watt would be a min )
Antec Three Hundred Black Case

Well there are my parts, ill be using IATKOSv7 for the install disk, which i think has OSX 10.5.7 on it. Ive tryed to keep the Hardware as cheep as possible.

Hello there, im here to post up my results installing OSX86 on to a Sub-Cheap Computer. My budget in the not the biggest, My goal is to have a working copy of OSX, and to show what i did to get this working. I'll be starting off using IATKOSv7 as the installer. I dont have any torrents here for you but a simple google search will find it for you. So please feel free to ask any questions and ill see what i can do. Im trying to keep this simple as, and will be using basic very easy to use words.
